SELECTED – HSC Young Writers Showcase
Anthony Parissis’ outstanding short fiction piece, ‘The delicate art of a funeral zeibekiko’, has been selected for publication in the Young Writers Showcase in 2025.
This is a prestigious achievement, with Anthony joining an exclusive group of approximately 15 writers in having their work published. Anthony’s piece created a mournful world in which the patriarch of the fictional Pavilidis family passed away, revealing through the core narration of the thoughtful Theo a complex childhood and paternal relationship. Ultimately though, this is as much a story of a defiant matriarch as it is that of a flawed father or scorned son. The female voices of Evelyn, Alexandra, and the unnamed mother are where the story comes into its own, with revealing testimony that uncovers grief, love, and loss within the boundaries of cultural inheritance. At the College, we have long recognised Anthony’s writing talents and we are all so proud that the world can now see what we have known for a long time: Anthony is an exceptional writing talent, and we are sure this won’t be his only published work.
